Khatam marquetry is one of Iran's most intricate handicrafts, in which thin rods of wood, bone, and metal are arranged side by side into stunning geometric patterns. In this workshop, the complex's khatam master demonstrates the cutting, arranging, and gluing of these rods hands-on, and each student produces a small khatam piece — such as a box lid or a photo frame. While mastering authentic khatam work takes years of practice, this short course gives you a genuine taste of the logic and beauty behind the art. It's an experience that will change the way you look at Persian handicrafts for good.
